The courtyard stones came from the stream

The courtyard was not paved in one go. We spent two summers carrying stones up from downstream, setting them by size and colour, slowly.

Some carry a faint water line that only appears when the surface is soaked after rain. Guests in the Courtyard Room can probably see it when they open the window in the morning.

We left the gaps unfilled, a little room for moss and weeds. They have grown faster than we expected.
